Save Big Bucks With DIY Cabinet Hardware Updating
One of the fastest ways to update your kitchen or bath is to replace pulls and knobs. However, it’s easy to spend a couple of hundred dollars or more (even choosing low-end options) because we often underestimate just how many pieces of hardware we actually need.
A client clued me in to a great Do-It-Yourself project for updating your hardware for less than $15. All of them. And, we’re not talking about just going from traditional to contemporary with some silver spray paint. This takes shiny or brushed nickel pulls and transforms them into the popular and classic oil rubbed bronze finish.
Thank you, Kim, for providing the great photos and process! I can’t wait to them in person!
Step 1:
Spray paint with black Rust-Oleum
Universal all-surface paint for metals/wood/etc. in a flat or satin finish.

Step 2:
Hand rub with Rub-n-Buff (copper), using a tiny bit. (Rub-n-Buff can be found at craft stores such as Hobby Lobby). More can be added if desired. Rub immediately to desired look. Adding more to raised edges looks good too.
